Include Always. That’s what we aim to do. Include patients and families at every level throughout the health care system. Through conversations, sharing ideas, and inviting the patient in, the outcome will be better health care for everyone. We’re not launching a campaign that begins and ends. Together, we’re creating a cultural shift, a unified mindset where the patient is truly one of us. It’s a whole new health care approach. It takes a whole lot of change. It takes courage. Include Always: Community Conversations for Safe Care

Patients and families play a major role in ensuring safety in healthcare. Did you know that medical errors are now estimated to be a leading cause of death in the United States? Patients and families can help reverse this trend and play a major role to reduce medical errors and preventable harm. The team at the Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) will provide current information about patient safety here in MN, as well as get YOUR ideas on how patients and families can partner with providers and care systems to make care as safe as possible. We’ll share stories, discuss current data, and brainstorm more ways that patients and families can get involved to improve safety. We look forward to seeing you in your community!

Sometimes healthcare can take an unexpected turn. After Ronn navigated a long journey, he decided he wanted to share what he learned with others. He now serves as a patient partner on his local hospital's Orthopedic Quality Committee and as a peer advisor for joint replacement patients.

In 2008, Lisa shared her story for the first time at the MAPS conference. Since 2011, Lisa has served as the first consumer on the MAPS board and joined the staff in the spring of 2017. Lisa's passion is to bring consumers and healthcare organizations together as partners in an effort to make care safer for everyone.
